 We have been asking a lot of questions and doing a lot of listening. Finally, an affordable solution for Electrofishing. The HT-2000 meets and exceeds all aspects of the Electrofishing Guidelines. Battery and electrical circuits are contained in a hermetically sealed, rugged case, integrated on our non-conductive and comfortable pack frame. Our unique telescoping anode pole with crutch-style handle allows hours of fatigue free use … even in strong current!

The Canadian Aquatic Biomonitoring Network (CABIN) is the national biomonitoring program developed by Environment Canada to provide standardized sampling protocols and a recommended assessment approach called the Reference Condition Approach (RCA) for assessing aquatic ecosystem condition.

CABIN is a collaborative program for the collection and assessment of biological data to determine the health status of aquatic ecosystems. Maintained by Environment Canada, CABIN provides participants with a nationally standardized protocol for the collection of benthic macroinvertebrate and stream information that is shared across the network using online tools. Collaborating with other agencies and organizations (both public and private) allows all participants to evaluate aquatic ecosystem health in a scientifically defensible manner at a fraction of the cost of doing so individually.

What is a kick net?

CABIN uses a kick net sampling method standardized by sampling effort (i.e. time – 3 minutes). The kick net is a triangular metal frame holding a mesh bag of 400 micron size (Figure 16) with a collection cup at the end. One end of the metal frame is attached to a rake handle.

The part of the bag that attaches to the frame is made of canvas or ripstop-plastic tarpaulin to withstand abrasion. A detachable cup can be added to the end of the bag to facilitate removal of the sample. A 400 micron mesh net is recommended for general sampling.

Here are some aspects I like about the HT2000: The backpacker shocker frame is setup to ride higher on your back, so you can shocker deeper pools. The battery life is amazing! The outer-shell of shocker is a pelican case with great waterproofing. The unit is lighter than other shockers. Halltech’s service department is A+, always working hard to make sure our shocking equipment never goes down keeping us from completing our surveys.

Our nets are custom made with the finest materials available. In most situations, knotless nylon mesh is used to reduce abrasion on the fish. Let us know what your requirements are and we will build a net tailor made to your specific water or fish conditions. All nets may be treated with an UVB coating to prolong their life.

Seines are available in mesh sizes from 1/8″ to 1/2″, in 4′, 6′, 8′ and 10′ heights(some mesh will require horizontal seams to achieve 10′ height). Sienes are attached to 3/16″ braided poly rope and may be ordered with weights and floats as well. Trap (Fyke) nets are very effective at trapping fish alive and unharmed. As shown the basic design consists of 2 steel frames, 4 to 5 steel hoops, and 1 or 2 throats. Frame size can vary from 27″x39″ to 4′x6′. Mesh sizes range from 1/8″ to 1″.

Hoop nets normally come with 7 steel hoops, with throats in the 2nd and 4th hoop. Mouth diameters can range from 2′ to 5′, with mesh sizes up to 3″.

Dip Nets

Ideal for sweeping over vegetation or use in shallow ponds or streams. The ring is made of rust-resistant powder painted steel, and is securely and easily attached to the hardwood handle using a threaded socket connection. Available in a variety ofmesh sizes in either rot resistant NITEX mesh or polyester netting.

Maintenance Charger

Electrofisher Batteries must be used and kept at or near full charge to ensure longevity.  Our Maintenance Charger allows you to store and trickle charger up to 4 batteries for those long winter months when your equipment may not be in use.  Nothing shortens the life of a battery better than allowing it to discharge completely.  An investment in a maintenance charger will pay off in the long term.

ElectroFrogger:    Working closely with Stan Orchard of Bull Frog Control, Halltech has adapted our popular Electrofisher to be used for the collection of American bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana = Lithobates catesbeianus).  Anode and Cathode rings have been mounted on the same pole which is maneuvered over the frog prior to stunning.  Our pulsator control box is mounted in the boat and functions much the same as for stunning fish and invertebrates.  Floods lights can be mounted directly onto the pole for increased visibility.

This dredge is useful for sampling benthic communities inhabiting soft bottomed aquatic environments. As the dredge is lowered, the hinged upper doors swing open, allowing water to pass through and minimize the shock wave. When the dredge reaches the bottom, a messenger is sent down the line which trips the spring-loaded jaws. The jaws snap shut, preventing washout of the sample. Our dredges are constructed of stainless steel with special Heliarc welding for extra strength and trouble-free life. A simple cable release system with convenient bar grip enables the operator to set the dredge with greater safety. The Ekman Dredge comes complete with a stainless steel messenger and 100ft (30.45m) of line and carrying case.

A simple pin mechanism prevents accidental closure of the dredge while in transit. The new improved spring-loaded release mechanism triggers the dredge upon impact with the bottom.
